"She ran like an animal."

And so began one of my favorite vampire novels that I have read. :)

In Pulse we meet 17 year old Kalina. She has just recently lost her boyfriend, Aaron, in an unexplained accident. You can see that she blames him and his childish behavior for his death. She never really got to know the "true" Aaron. However she soon meets Aaron's half brothers, Jaeger and Stuart, and finds out that they are all vampires. Yes I said vampires, running one of the local wineries producing "Vampire Wine". And oh yes you can only imagine what that might be. And did I mention they were both gorgeous. (Aren't most vampires?) She also found out that she's a little different. Aaron was not only her boyfriend but he also was sent to keep an eye on her. See it seems she has this very rare blood that vampires everywhere seek to find the carrier of the "Life Blood". The two brothers one an assassin and the other a vampire who has learned to control his tendencies and just wants to become human, will stop at nothing to protect Kalina. She becomes drawn to both brothers. Liking the different traits she sees in both of them.

Gow is such a great writer. I have read her Bitter Frost as well. She doesn't write about how blue the sky looks today or how fresh the grass smells and she doesn’t go on and on and on about something we honestly don’t care about. Indeed, like most authors only do these days. She writes about what is really going on inside the character and they way she views what’s going on around her.

I loved all the characters in this book. Kalina is definitely like any other highschooler.  Spunky, smart mouthed, and doesn't seem scared of many things. And the vampire brothers were like any other gorgeous vamps that were hundreds of years old battling for the same girl while trying to protect her. I enjoyed getting to know all of them and I can't wait to learn more after such a cliff hanger ending.

This was such a fun read. I picked it up and within minutes was highly addicted and couldn't put it down. As I got to the last word I was wanting to download the next one from Amazon. I really try and stay away from vampire stories. Because they all seem to want to be like Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. But this was such a great surprise. There was more danger, suspense, romance and NO sparkling vamps. :)
Pulse was like starting a bag of chips and not being able to eat just one. I'm definitely going back for seconds!!

Gow and Pulse... 5 Stars!

A little bit about Kailin ...

Kailin began taking her writing seriously when her daughter was diagnosed as being on the spectrum and her mother was fighting three types of cancer. Four years later, her daughter was no longer on the spectrum, and her mother became cancer free. Kailin believes in hope and miracles, after having been through several struggles and experiences herself. This is why she writes.
When not busy inhaling chocolate and drinking coffee by the gallon, Kailin makes time for writing fantasy books, blogging as an expert blogger for Fast Company, volunteering as an Emergency Responder and volunteering for battered women's shelters. For fun, she plays the electric violin, and puts together a music playlist for her radio and web shows.
Her Frost Series consisting of the Bitter Frost Series, The Wolf Fey Series, and the Fairy Rose Chronicles along with her other book series are being developed into worldwide MMORPG Games by SEE GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT, which is the world's leading game developer known for developing the top blockbuster films into games.
